Piano Recital

The big musical weekend was capped with Linda’s studio piano recital. Anna and Emily played and did a wonderful job. Emily played Kabalevsky’s Five Variations on a Russian Folk Song Op 50, No 1 (mistakenly attributed to Latour in the video). Anna played Streabbog’s A Sad Story Op 63, No 12.

You can see more pictures of each of the students playing by looking at the top of the page under the top menu and mouse over “Piano Studio”. Click on the “Piano Recital April 2010” menu option.

Christmas Recital – Anna

Screen Shot 2011-12-13 at 8.00.44 AM

Yesterday, I posted that Linda has her piano students play Christmas music at a local retirement facility at Christmas time.  The students get to play Christmas songs on the piano and the residents get to hear the kids play.

Anna played several pieces: Christmas Time is Here; Do You Hear What I Hear; and I’ll Be Home For Christmas.

Unfortunately, the camera began to overheat and shut itself off to cool during the last piece.  Linda had said this happened to her before, but I’ve never seen it happen.  The crazy thing is that this is a brand new DSLR that has amazing 1080p HD video and shouldn’t be overheating 8 minutes into recording video.  But – alas, it did and we’re stuck with a performance recording cut short.

Christmas Recital – Emily

Each year at Christmas time, Linda has her piano students play Christmas music at a local retirement facility.  This gives the kids an outlet for playing Christmas songs on the piano and gives the residents at the facility an opportunity to hear the kids play.

Emily played several pieces: The First Noel, Hallelujah Chorus, and Silent Night.

P.S. Anna will play for you tomorrow.

Piano Recital Time

Today was the Fall piano recital for Linda’s studio.  It’s amazing to see and hear the progress made by the students each semester.

Some of them have been with her for many years and these high schoolers make beautiful music.

Some of the students had their first recital of their young musical career.

Anna and Emily did well – their videos will be posted over the next few days.

The Fabers come to town

Linda has been hard at work coordinating a joint conference between the Kansas and Missouri Music Teachers Association, being held this weekend.

The keynote speakers are Dr. Randall Faber and his wife, Nancy Faber.  They have authored some of the most popular piano teaching books; many piano students have likely played some of their material.

Dr. Faber performed a most wonderful concert last night at the conclusion of the conference day.  Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, and Gershwin were offered to the audience in amazing lyricism and technical prowess.  Most enjoyable.

Afterwards, the kids met with them and got autographs on their respective books.

KCMTA Multi-Piano Concert

This weekend is filled with rehearsals and concerts for the 2010 Kansas City Music Teachers Association Multi-Piano Concert.  This concert involves 18 grand pianos on stage with 2 players at each piano.  This duets-only concert includes around 20 pieces that have different sets of players on each set.  It’s like an orchestra of pianos.

All four of us are playing again this year.  I’m playing with Anna; Anna is playing with Emily; Linda is playing with Emily and also with several other students.  It really is a lot of fun.

The picture is from the yesterday’s rehearsal.
